OUR HEAD BREWER + DISTILLER
Our head brewer and distiller Jamie Chesher’s career has followed something of an unconventional path. While most brewers learn their craft working in concrete floored labs behind closed doors, Jamie’s experience began very much on the front line gaining first- hand experience of consumers’ distinctive tastes.
His passion for hand-crafted booze was sparked when he began bartending in a small family owned restaurant in Brisbane. Bitten by the hospo bug, he soon moved to Melbourne, Australia’s unofficial bar and nightlife capital, where he began to further hone his skills.
For the next decade Jamie worked in some of Australia’s best and most highly accoladed bars, pubs and restaurants including Seamstress/Sweatshop, Match Bar, The Albert Park Hotel and Eau De Vie.
In 2012 Jamie became a Campari Australia Brand Ambassador representing global brands such as Wild Turkey, Espolon, Cabo Wabo, Appleton Estate, Sagatiba, Campari, Aperol and Cinzano.
For the next five years, Jamie travelled the globe, visiting the world’s oldest and most prestigious breweries and distilleries, learning from the greats and then sharing these experiences back home, raising the standard of Australian drinking and bartending culture.
In late 2018, Jamie took on the role of a lifetime, becoming the founding brewer and distiller here at Nagambie and his passion and creativity is evident in every drop.
At Nagambie Brewery & Distillery Jamie aims to create fresh, honest, sessionable beers that people love to drink – from more traditional Lager and Pale Ale styles through to Brown Ales and more experimental batches.
Jamie’s brews are designed to be enjoyed with our fantastic food, but stand up equally as well when drunk on their own.
In the distillery, Jamie’s passion for premium quality ingredients is evident and we’re excited share our range of Gins and Vodkas with you!
HANDMADE FROM START TO FINISH
Unlike larger breweries which rely heavily on computers, every step of the brewing process at Nagambie Brewery and Distillery is done by hand. It may not be the quickest or easiest way to make beer, but it’s the best way to achieve maximum flavour in all our brews and flavour is something we’ll never compromise.
THE BEST INGREDIENTS, SOURCED LOCALLY
From our classic style Lager and creamy Pale Ale, through to experimental and seasonal brews, every beer in our range is created using the best ingredients available, including water sourced from the mighty Goulburn River.
CAREFULLY CRAFTED WITH CREATIVE FLAIR
Our small-batch gins, vodkas and whiskies are also hand-crafted created with care combining traditional distilling techniques and botanicals with a little of Jamie’s personal creative flair.
